#FWF 30/11/12: Christmas Candles

4 Dec

Dripping, hot and melting away. Just like the snow. Just like the days. Christmas is over in a flash, in a flicker of the flame. The candle should go on forever, shining through each and every day of the year. But we seem to forget its delicate light, too easily put out. A rush of cold draft from the open door can extinguish all the warmth within. That candle’s eternal wick can only be found inside our hearts. It stretches between our loved ones, a never ending web holding us all together. The flame burns through us all, putting fire in our bellies that the ice, the wind, the rain and the snow cannot put out. The season of death and cold is blessed by Christmas’ warmth and love. Candle, I pray you keep on burning.

This resonates so much with me as I have often wondered why the magic and the warmth and the kindness of Christmas seems to just go away with the exit of the holiday. It’s really a sad, sad thing. Loved this piece and proud to have your contribution. Thank you for sharing it with us, xox
