#FWF 21/12/12: The Little Bird

1 Jan

A little bird, with not much strength,

One day was found, upon a fence.

The wind turned up and jeered at it,

“You puny thing, to me submit!”

So with a mighty punch of air,

The gale blew to and fro to scare

Our little friend with quivering bones,

Whose tiny body filled with woes.

But greatness of heart would always prevail,

And the little bird would never fail.

He pulled in his wings and bowed his head,

And prepared for the onslaught of which he did dread.

With this the wind grew angrier still,

And called for the snow to give him a chill.

So along came the storm, lethal and cold,

And to the poor little bird, began to scold.

But all that they gave could never budge,

This little bird that they misjudged.

And after some time, the storm grew bored,

And in embarrassment did meekly roar,

“You puny thing, so weak and small,

Have stayed your ground like the strongest wall.”

With this the powerful wind did depart,

Rightfully beaten by the little bird’s heart.
