Your Writer’s Mind

19 Sep

To understand what kind of mind us writers have to put up with, give Jamie Lee Wallace’s post a read! A truthful insight into our craziness that I know I would not swap for the world.

Your Writer’s Mind.

Quote of the Week 2013: Week #38

16 Sep

“I used to dream about escaping my ordinary life, but my life was never ordinary. I had simply failed to notice how extraordinary it was. Likewise, I never imagined that home might be something I would miss.”

-Ransom Riggs

Suitcase Sonnet

11 Sep

Stickers and stamps tattoo your aging skin

To show how far you’ve travelled in your time,

On every foreign floor you’ve reaped the grime,

And after years of strain your threads are thin.

A heavy burden’s crammed by force within,

You’ll hush your master’s secrets like a mime

Until the rusty lock that’s past its prime

Is cracked and bleeding this nomadic bin.

Empty your vulgar wares from round the globe,

It’s time to clear you out and start again,

Your stubborn leather crust must mould around

Where other cornered objects are to probe,

You’ll snuggle between luggage on the train

And hope your owner’s never homeward bound.

My Venetian Summer

1 Aug

This Summer for me will always be defined as the one where I had my first taste of Italy. It is not what I would define as a city, but more accurately, a maze that can lead you into the history of romance and beauty in the most perfect juxtapositions of old and new, splendour and decay. I intend to write a poem about Venice, because that is what you have to do. Perhaps I’ll write a love poem for it… Because that is what I did, I fell in love with it. For now, here are some pictures of my travels. From the beauty of these amateur photos, I could never do the place justice.

Goodnight Venice <3

Goodnight Venice ❤

I can’t wait to explore more of Italy, now that I’ve had such a wonderful introductory taster! (And that especially includes the ice cream that I did not limit myself on – I was on holiday!) Until next time, farewell Venice.

The Battle of Beddington

2 Jul

The bombardment began, at the Battle of Beddington,

One wet weekend when weariness waned,

As cheeky couch quarrels concluded in conflict

On treacherous textile terrain.

The Eiderdown Infantry intercepted intelligence

Of rivals plotting landmines at lunch,

But the Bolster Battalion’s booby trapped bunker

Plotted a pulverising pillow punch.

Frenzied fire over the futon frontline

Triggers a teddy trench trauma,

Ammunition ambush, an armchair assault,

And a Dutch wife dugout drama.

Disperse and duck down behind dining room debris,

The beanbag barricade’s blown!

The illustrious incident, at the Battle of Beddington,

Where wakefulness was overthrown.

Quote of the week 2013: Week #27

1 Jul

I have a job interview today, but only for a Summer job working at a pub. Still, in the future I intend to follow this great saying:

“Choose a job you love, and you will never have to work a day in your life.”

– Confucius

Just Write!

30 Jun

Just write something! Writer’s block does not exist if you do not let it. It doesn’t matter what is written on the page, just get something written and the blank space suddenly becomes words, words that can mean something, to yourself and to others too if you’re lucky. Get something written and you’ll be happy you did because the words mean so much more written down than they do in your head. Get writing, get happy, because writers are only happy when they’re writing.
